SIZZLING WIN FOR STAR JUVENILE

Outstanding Brisbane juvenile Sizzling showed he was the horse to beat in the upcoming feature two-year-olds of the Winter Carnival with a stunning win in Saturday’s Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben.

A noted moderate to slow beginnner, Sizzling got back in the field in the feature race before unleashing a stunning burst in the straight to nab the leaders in the shadows of the post to win impressively.

The win was the third in six runs for Sizzling. He’s been second in two other races and is unplaced just once – when fourth to Driefontein and co in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

Trainer Kelso Wood said he was worried his star wouldn’t be able to reel in the leaders when the runners turned for home.

“I was a bit worried at the top of the straight but then he was a lot closer today than what he was at the Gold Coast,” Wood told AAP.

The Snitzel colt will now tackle the two biggest two-year-old races of the Brisbane Winter Carnival accord to Wood.

“His next run over 1400 metres in the Sires’ is going to be right up his alley.”

“I’m excited about it and he’ll then go onto the mile race in the TJ Smith,” he added.

Part owned by AFL legend Leigh Matthews, Sizzling was purchased for connections by renowmed bloodstock agent John Foote for $260,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The Snitzel colt is the first named foal for the stakes performed mare Admirelle.

A daughter of former star Magic Millions graduate General Nediym, Admirelle was a winner at two and earned black type when third in the Keith Mackay Handicap.

Admirelle in turn is from the Flemington stakes winning Alzao mare Laudemio. Also in the family are stakes winners Loving Cup, Fullazz, Shy Hero and Pittance.
