Macedon team target Spring

Macedon Lodge imports At First Sight and Seville will be among a strong team of gallopers set to come back into work in the coming weeks at Llyod Williams’ Mount Macdeon property.

Neither has been seen since succumbing to injury before reaching their 2012 Spring goals with six-year-old gelding At First Sight, runner-up in the 2010 Epsom Derby, last seen finishing tenth behind Dunaden in the 2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup.

Seville, runner-up in the 2011 Irish Derby, made his last racetrack appearance when second behind stable mate Green Moon in the 2012 Turnbull Stakes.

While conceding it was too early to pinpoint Spring targets at this stage, Nick Williams said the pair would be among a large group set to step up their work in the coming weeks that also includes exciting imports Sea Moon and Masked Marvel as well as Melbourne Cup champion Green Moon.

Formerly trained by the great Sir Michael Stoute, lightly-raced Sea Moon is a dual Group 2 winner in the UK, including a dominant win in last year’s Hardwicke Stakes (2400m) at Royal Ascot, defeating the likes of Dunaden, Red Cadeaux, Fiorente and Jakkalberry.

2011 Group 1 English St Leger (2800m) winner Masked Marvel also boasts form around some of Europe’s best stayers including last year’s Melbourne visitor Mount Athos, Aidan O’Brien’s star galloper St Nicholas Abbey and fellow import Reliable Man, a recent winner of the Queen Eliabeth Stakes (2000m) for Chris Waller.

“They’re all getting ready to commence their Spring preparations in the next couple of weeks,” Williams said.

“They’re all very well at the moment but in around three months time we’ll have a better idea of where they are all placed.

“It’s a very exciting time, we’ve got a great group of horses and hopefully a lot of them will put their best foot forward over the Spring.”

Williams confirmed fellow imports Hartani, Thought Worthy and Massiyn as well as 2012 Zipping Classic winner Tanby, would also be among the team coming back into work.

Sean Moon, arguably the most exciting horse among the latest bunch of Macedon imports yet to be seen in Australia, boasts a 3.3 length victory in the 2012 Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes (2400m) at Royal Ascot, defeating BMW Caulfield Cup/Melbourne winner Dunaden and 2011 Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux in the process.

Of the others, Masked Marvel was a winner of the 2011 Group 1 St Leger (2900m) at Doncaster in the Uk while Massiyn finished runner-up in the 2012 Irish St Leger (2800m) at the Curragh.
